30 IS NOT OLD–A QUICK MESSAGE ON AGING
Please stop this mess.
Well, I’ve gone and done it: I’ve pissed off the 30-year-old contingency of TikTokers. But it had to be done. Who else was going to tell them that 30 wasn’t old?
It all started last Saturday night. After working on my skincare routine and rotting in bed for a few hours, I noticed that my TikTok TL kept feeding me this disturbing trend: ”Women in their 30s” videos. I wasn’t sure of its impetus, but it seemed to have convinced conventionally attractive young people to show how good they looked…at 30. Yeah, internet, their well-stylized selfies seemed to declare, I still got it! I sat up in bed, immediately annoyed. What was the meaning of this inane trend, exacerbating ageist beauty standards? The idea of glowing at 30 was neither a miracle nor a flex. Who had lied to these children?! I immediately began railing against the content.
